Ahh spring time in Nova Scotia..I am SO happy to be saying that 🙂 And with spring comes spring cleaning…. which I have been doing a little of …. and painting too and thought a little machine embroidery was due. Since fresh paint was going up and new curtains. Just a quick little valance made from left over board cloth and fresh white linen cafe curtain with a little trim. I am quite proud that I keep using from my stash..mostly …lol
The pic is a little dark…since I was taking a pic of the window I had to wait until evening. You can see off to the right is the other machine embroidery I stitched. This one is from the apothecary embroidery pack at urbanthreads.com. I stitched the design on the same white linen and since it is a dense design , it pulled at the sides a little, making puckering around the design. A heavier fabric would have been a better choice but for a framed piece I think it will be ok …
Bees always say vintage to me…and I have a few bee designs 🙂 This design is from embroidery library.com. I have a couple of designs picked out to stitch onto a fabric shower curtain.. but thats a bigger project in the future. I use water soluble stabilizer on top of the towel as well and a tear away underneath. The top stabilizer keeps the stitches from sinking into the terri cloth. A run through the regular wash will get rid of the rest of the stabilizer.
With another room painted and cleaned up. Its time to enjoy the rest of the weekend. I did that by stitching up these adorable woven bunnies from a free pattern offered by mellysews.com ….another stash busting project….I think I’m on a roll lol and instead of stitching the eyes and nose as instructed ( like I follow instructions very well lol) I found a embroidery design that I could edit and use on the bunny’s face… makes them look sleepy 🙂 it was a very quick and easy sewing project and took very little fabric at 9″ (23cm) tall
Sew…..I hope you have a great weekend and Happy Easter….
I took some time to sit in the garden today. Snapped a few pictures and watched the “wild life” The air is cooler today for a change and the summer is winding down here in Alberta. August, up until a couple of days ago has been hot, humid and rainy. It’s been thunder-storm after thunder-storm this year. The rain is always good for the garden but I would rather not have the special “weather watches” that go with it. Bees buzzing in and out of flowers, the humming-bird zips past every so often, and a slight breeze blowing.
I still haven’t been able to get a good photo of the humming birds yet. Its like they know when I pick up the camera. Even today as I am sitting and waiting I notice a shadow on the garden shed, it’s the humming-bird! He went unnoticed on the other side of the feeder ! As I got up from what I thought was a good vantage point to move around closer , off he went! I missed my opportunity again! Maybe tomorrow, if it doen’t rain 🙂
I trust everyone had a good weekend, and looking forward to the week and projects ahead.
When I get something in my head, it really nags at me. This time it was about changing the look and feel of my blog (like I have so much time on my hands) lol. I am working on a quilt using machine embroidery and my list for .. do I dare say it..Christmas projects and Now ! I want to sit down and explore all the options that come with changing the appearance of my blog? Ok.. I sat down this Morning with a cup of tea or two and looked over the styles of blogs… finally picked one out after “trying on ” a few.. what agony..lol I hope you like what I picked out ? I think it says”Me” the best 🙂 now to do some rearranging and condensing. ( I’m thinking rearranging the furniture would be easier) 🙂 but here I go… and I’m sure I will be the first one to say..now where did I put that pic? or ” I hope I didn’t delete the whole article !” lol I think sometimes this blogging is for the young. I’m the proverbial old dog learning new tricks…oh my! Hey if this golden girl can learn the ins and outs of a new phone and even find my way here on the net..then all is not lost…right? Hope you all enjoy the view when I am finished.. thanks for following along…Isabel
